| VLW booked for embezzlement of funds worth lakhs | | SVO raids BDO's office | | Et Report Jammu, Feb 10 : Vigilance Organization Jammu has registered a case against Village Level Worker (VLW) for embezzlement of funds worth lakhs of rupees. Informed sources said that, based on the complaint registered by a contractor namely Mushtaq Ahmed at Basantgarh, Vigilance sleuths conducted raid in the office of Block Development Officer, situated in the far flung area of hilly district Udhampur and seized records for verification, adding, during scrutiny of the records Vigilance came to know that the allegations leveled against VLW were based on facts and accordingly, he was booked under section 420,467 and 468 RPC.The VLW namely Ramesh Chander, embezzled Rs 1.5 lakh out of the total funds allotted for the Block Level work. Sources said that an amount of about Rs 50 lakh was sanctioned by the government for the Block Level work at Basantgarh. The VLW managed material from SICOP for execution of the work and paid the amount accordingly. But, contrary to the record , the amount worth Rs 1.5 lakh sanctioned for contractor was not delivered to him. During investigation, the Vigilance realized that the amount sanctioned for contractor was diverted by the VLW in his own account.Further investigation on the part of Vigilance was in progress for challaning purpose. |
