| Hopes dash to ground, doctors desert CHC Basholi | | | Shiv Kumar Padha
Basohli, May 6: Fifteen years back when the oldest primary health center Basohli was upgraded to CHC 'Community Health Center' the people of tehsil took it as the advent of new era in their lives and the countdown of their sufferings which were due to the inadequate medical facilities available at primary health center Basohli since independence.
But soon their hopes were dashed to ground when the doctors started deserting the CHC Basohli one after the other without their relief joining the post fallen vacant after transfers. Now when the hospitals of the big cities, where there is no scarcity of the health facilities, are flooded with the number of doctors, specialists and surgeons the CHC Basohli and the trauma center Mahanpur are suffering badly due to the scarcity of the most needed doctors and surgeons.
There is a vast catchment area of CHC Basohli where a sufficient number of women patients for delivery, accidental cases, blood transfusion and that of rabies and snake bites throng the hospital with the hope that they will get quality treatment from the specialists and surgeons there. The hospital Bsohli remains crowded with the patients where a team of dedicated doctors from the surrounding dispensaries examine them in the OPD.
The crowed of the patients in the hospital resembles with that of a ticket window or of a wrestling arena. The operation theater is totally in operable due to the non-availability of the surgeon, equipment and anesthesia specialist in the hospital. The shrieks of the pregnant women with the labor pains are audible to the patients.
The delivery cases are referred either to district hospital Kathua or GMC Jammu where many patients scum to excessive bleeding in the way. There is no provision of blood transfusion in 250 kmt terrain from Kathua to Sarthal with the result that many accidental cases from BaniBasohli die of excessive bleeding before they are brought to Basohli hospital.
The condition of the Trauma center is in no way different from CHC Basohli as both are suffering for want of the doctors. The posts of gynecologist pediatrician, physiacian, anesthesia specialist, ENT specialist, Eye specialist and many other important surgeons are lying vacant. Out of 7 sanctioned posts of surgeons 6 are lying vacant in Trauma center Mahanpur which is provided to the public as a succour in the event of any highway accidents.
Since healthful living is the fundamental right of the citizen irrespective of the place they live. The people of whole tehsil Basohli feel deprived of the medical facilities which their counterparts are enjoying in the cities.
There is a great anger and resentment over the way the medical department attaches the posts of the doctors in big cities at the cast of the lives of the poor people living in the rural areas merely for minting money. It is therefore brought in the notice of the J&K government in general and the Health department in particular to detach doctors from the cities and direct them to report to their parent posts.
Moreover equip the CHC Basohli and Trauma center Mahanpur with blood transfusion facility, blood bank and the required men and material so that people can also reap the fruits of hard earned freedom. |
