Transitory population of Bangladeshis, Burmese posing grave security threat
5/6/2014 11:01:31 PM
Shiv Thakur
Jammu, May 6: Posing serious threat to the internal security of state, a major chunk of Bangladeshi and Burmese population is latently growing within and along peripheries of Jammu city and if this goes ignored both by district administration as well as police with impunity the same could turn into a serious problem in future, sources said.
According to sources, over five thousand Bangladeshis and Burmese have settled in the outskirts of Jammu city including Narwal and Channi Rama posing a serious security threat to Jammu. Majority of these people are lured to travel to Pakistan for employment and their easy ex-filtration to Pakistan from the Jammu region, sources said, adding many a times the 'touts' luring these Bangladeshis and Myanmar (Burmese) nationals were held while facilitating their crossing to the International Border in R S Pura or elsewhere in Jammu region."
Sources also claimed that some mysterious organizations are engaged in collecting funds for helping these people to reach hundreds of miles away from their region which is impossible without some sort of help.
"With the arrival of Burmese and Bangladeshis some mysterious organizations have suddenly mushroomed to support and extend financial help to these foreigners entering Jammu and Kashmir far away from the borders of Burma and that of Bangladesh," sources said, adding the things may take ugly turn if not checked at earliest. 'Many of these are involved in the criminal activities be it 'thefts or planned beggary racket.'
Sources further claimed that this is a bigger threat for Jammu and is stimulating the risk of growing crime as these migrants are involved in organized crime and chain snatching and the female migrants are also involved in many criminal acts like prostitution etc.
However, these migrants from Burma and Bangladesh are seen begging on almost each and every traffic signal during the day. "Many a time police have arrested these people and even had repatriated them after their serving their sentence in different jails across Jammu but the thing still have not changed and the floating population of these atypical intruders yet has not ceased," sources said.
Sources added that various political and non political organization have expressed their apprehensions over their ever growing head count.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu, when contacted said that the police being a law enforcing agency is keeping a close watch over the transitory population of such migrants. He said that police is keeping a constant surveillance upon this moving population. Replying a query about the alleged involvement of these people in criminal activities, he said if any of them is caught in any such criminal activity the individual is booked under the law of land.
