Keyboard jihadist arrested in Srinagar downtown

srinagar, May 6: With the arrest of a class 12th pass-out in Srinagar downtown, Police have statrted a crackdown on the administrators and operators of certain Facebook pages promoting violent demonstrations, attacks on Police, CRPF and the polling parties and boycott to the Lok Sabha elections in Kashmir valley.
Faced with violent demonstrations and attacks on over a hundred polling stations in South Kashmir, Police filed over a dozen criminal cases under Information Technology Act, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Representatives of Peoples Act and other criminal laws against the social media operators on April 29 and 30. Official sources said that the first arrest took place on Tuesday.
"Today one of the kingpins running seven pages has been tracked down and detained for further questioning. The king pin is hailing from downtown, Srinagar and is working in a private company. A number of other administrators have also been identified on his disclosure who will be detained shortly for further investigation" an official release said.
Informed sources said that the operators of two local news agencies are also been rounded up in a couple of days as they have been found to be circulating anti-national and objectionable matter while copying and pasting it from the 15 Facebook pages. Sources said that an exercise was underway to also identify and arrest at least six persons who have been spreading rumours and promoting Hurriyat's anti-election campaign through Internet.
Sources said that the State Police had already taken up the matter of blocking about 20 Facebook pages with the Government of India and three telecommunication companies after seeking necessary orrders from a court of law.

According to Police, the following Facebook pages are being shut down and cases are being registered against the people operating these pages for promoting boycott to the polling and intimidation to the voters:
