kolkata, May 6: The words Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee was using against BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi was not permitted by law and spoke of her desperation, BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said today.
"As per law, a Chief Minister of one state can't use such words against another Chief Minister and Mamataji should not use such words against a person who is going to become the Prime Minister of India," he said. "Mamataji normally doesn't use such words, but her choice of words shows her desperation. The kind of words she is using shows her desperation with the rise of BJP in Bengal," he claimed.
He alleged that the Trinamool Congress represented scams in West Bengal just as the "Congress-led UPA is representing scam India".
Prasad also asked the West Bengal Chief Minister to check her facts and figures before commenting about Modi.
He said 25 parties had extended support to BJP and Modi, and BJP's parliamentary board and national executive had given the nod to the decision of anointing him as BJP's prime ministerial candidate. Commenting on the performance of the EC, he said, "I am pained with the EC. I am sharing the pain of the people of Bengal. It is an acid test of EC as entire India is looking at India's general elections."
Told that Banerjee was opposed to a CBI enquiry into the Saradha scam, he said, "Then the law will take its own course through court proceedings." Asked whether a CBI enquiry into the ponzi scheme would take place in the event of BJP coming to power at the Centre, he said, "If Mamataji honestly wants a proper enquiry to bring out the truth, let her write to the Centre that she wants a CBI enquiry. I can assure that it will be a free and fair enquiry." Asked whether BJP would provide a financial package to debt-ridden Bengal, Prasad said, "We will give special attention to states of eastern India. "Narendra Modi and BJP will never mete step motherly treatment to any state based on their political colour. Neither Vajpayee has done it nor will Modi," he said.
Prasad claimed that the NDA would cross the 300-plus mark on the day of counting on May 16, when asked about a tie up with the TMC.
