| Locals attack Toll Plaza near BD Bari, ransack logistics | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 6, : Traffic on the Jammu-Pathankot National Highway remained disrupted during peak morning hours for about half an hour on Tuesday as angry people attacked under construction toll plaza near KFC food station. Supporters of local BJP leader Chandra Prakash Ganga arrived at the toll plaza, armed with lathis, and demolished the structures/cabins at the toll plaza. The agitated people also uprooted signalling system fixed at the sensor gates in a fit of anger.
While protesters shouted slogans against the highway authorities the traffic on the busy road came to a grinding halt. A small group of policemen present in the vicinity remained a mute spectator and avoided preventing the angry group of people from ransacking the toll plaza infrastructure. Though toll plaza is yet to be made functional and some patch work was going on in the area when local residents ransacked it. It may be mentioned that ever since the highway authorities proposed to set up a toll plaza along the highway as per the terms and conditions of the road building network, part of the four laning of the highway local residents had raised objections and approached the local authorities to shelve the idea of setting up toll plaza. |
