Srinagar, May 6 : As last phase of parliamentary elections in Jammu and Kashmir is scheduled today, people of ladakh division will cast their votes today. According to the details received, the Election Commission has set up 531 polling stations across the Ladakh Division which includes 274 in Leh District and 257 in Kargil district. The details reveal that nearly 1.6 lakh people are eligible to cast their votes this time and out of 531 polling stations of the division seven polling stations which include Chumur, Demchok, Mann, Merak, Khaktad, Korjok and Chusul are located close to the line of actual control close to China Border. The details also reveal that nine polling stations which include Dha, Beima, Hanu, Turtuk, Tyaksh, Thang, Bojhdag, Chalunkha and Tonysted have been setup close to the borders between India and Pakistan. As per reports ahead of polling for the lone Ladakh Lok Sabha seat, the Chinese forces made a major incursion in the Chumur area, close to the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Leh district few days back. Media reports also reveal that as Chumur is one of the farthest areas in the Ladakh division, however Election Commission has set up a polling station for voting for around 80 possible voters of the area. Pertinently from Ladakh division besides NC-Congress alliance candidate T.Sampal, BJP candidate Thuptan-Chhewang of Leh District, religious institution Imam Khumaini Memorial trust which is backing Congress unit of Kargil District have fielded the acting president and former Member of legislative assembly (MLA) Ghulam Raza as an independent candidate. Ghulam Raza as per sources is also supported by presently active councilors of Ladakh autonomous Hill Development council LAHDC of Kargil District, while as another famed religious institution called as Islamia School which is supporting NC unit of Kargil District have fielded Muhammad Syed Kazmi as their candidate and both the candidates besides candidates of other political parties will contest against NC-Congress alliance candidate T.Sampal. |
