| NC keeps options open, goes soft on Modi | | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 6 : If Anantnag Lok Sabha constituency was a prestigious seat for the PDP, the Srinagar seat is vital for the NC. The president of PDP, Mehbooba Mufti was in fray from Anantnag and Dr Farooq Abdullah contested from Srinagar. The Baramulla constituency is again prestigious for the PDP because its senior leader and former Deputy Chief Minister,Muzaffar Hussain Baig,is contesting against the NC candid ate,Sharif Din Shariq. While the fate of Mehbooba and Farooq Abdullah has been sealed in EVMs, their destiny will be decided when the polling will be held on May 7. It is not only the PDP that has pressed into service all its resources and team of dedicated workers the NC too has left nothing to chance even though the seat has remained in the bag of the NC for the last over three decades.NC sources said that the party leadership is hopeful on winning the Srinagar seat but is doubtful about the outcome of poll results in Anantnag constituency. Hence the NC leadership has intensified electioneering to woo voters. The NC leadership wishes to win at least two out of three seats in the Kashmir valley. Though the main contest is between NC and PDP candidates entry of Awami Itehad Party leader, Engineer Rashid, and the Peoples' Conference candidate is the field could upset the fortunes of the NC candidate. However, there are chances that the PDP candidate's vote share may be shared by the PC candidate. Inside reports said that since the NC leadership is not sure about making a clean sweep in the three constituencies in the valley it has started softening its stand against Narendra Modi. This is evident from the way both Dr Farooq A bdullah and Omar Abdullah have opposed enquiry into the snoopgate in Gujarat saying that ordering an enquiry by a Government that is on its last legs is not good. According to these reports, the NC leadership is keeping its options open as it believes that for the survival of the Government in Jammu and Kashmir it was mandatory for the ruling party in the state to have cordial and friendly relations with the party or the parties that are in power in the centre. |
