Jammu, May 6: The recent announcement of eight hour power curtailment by power development department has drawn sharp reactions from people who are already feeling annoyed with the increase of domestic load by the department arbitrarily
The PDD has recently increased, rather doubled the load of domestic consumers without the consent of the people and this exercise of PDD has drawn sharp resentment from the residents. Manoj Kumar a resident of Channi Himmat was astonished to see the increased load on the electricity bill delivered to him. He said that his previous load was 2 KW and now it has been doubled to 4 KW without his knowledge or prior notice. "I was astounded to see my agreed load doubled, that too arbitrarily by the department" he said adding that he is not having air conditioner in his house still his load was increased.
Another resident of Trikuta nagar, Bhushan lal said that his previous domestic load was 1.5 KW and has suddenly increased to 4 KW without my knowledge and when I inquired about it, the answer was that it has been increased for everyone.
When contacted, PDD AEE Sanjay Rohmetra, said that the department had announced voluntary disclosure scheme way back and many people have increased their domestic load on their own and those who didn't disclose only their load has been increased.
"The department had given them a chance of disclosure but they failed to respond to the opportunity" he said. "The doors are still open for everyone and will look into every complaint and will try to mitigate the problem" he added.
