| Troops asked to remain on high alert for foiling ingression bids | | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 6: Troops guarding the Line of Control (LoC) and the BSF, deployed on the 187 km long International Border (IB) in Jammu have been directed to intensify round the clock patrolling to foil infiltration bids. Official sources said that this instruction has been given following inputs from intelligence agencies indicating that agencies across the border were trying to assist groups of militants, who had been brought on the launch pads near to Line of Control (LoC) to sneak into Jammu and Kashmir. Troops have been specifically asked to plug all nonconventional ingress routes because groups of militants were being guided to use these nonconventional border routes for crossing into Jammu and Kashmir. "Alongwith these instructions another suggestion has gone to the police and the paramilitary forces to retaliate with restraint in case groups of youth resorted to violence on May 7 during the polling in Baramulla constituency, sources said. Meanwhile sources further said the Police have received reports that separatists, their supporters and militants were trying to disrupt the poll process in Baramulla Lok Sabha constituency on Wednesday. And acting upon these inputs, Government functionaries said that the police and the paramilitary forces have to tackle the situation on three fronts. "First they have to deal with the shutdown for which call has been given by the separatists, sources said, adding, "secondly the police and the paramilitary forces have to tackle militants who could sneak among protesters and open fire which could kick up a major controversy in case any civilian was killed." "Thirdly, the security forces have to tackle those who would create scare by pelting stones on police vehicles and even on voters who would walk to the polling booths, he said. "Above all troops deployed on the border have been told to remain on high alert to defeat the designs of Pak Army and other agencies planning to push groups of militants into Jammu and Kashmir for hiking the level of violence, sources added. |
