BAJ condemns police authorities for not suspending erring officers

Jammu, May 6: J&K High Court Bar Association Jammu today strongly condemned the attitude of Authorities in state police administration for not suspending erring police officers on one hand and falsely claiming through print and social media on the other hand that the erring police personnel had been suspended.
The work in the State High Court Jammu Wing and District Court Complex Janipur remained suspended due to non-appearance of lawyers. Meanwhile Reasi Bar Association protested against J&K Police in main Chowk of Reasi and closed the road for about one hour.
Continuing its agitation against officials of Police station, Gandhi Nagar, responsible for beating and illegally detaining Harshvardhan Gupta, Advocate and demanding their suspension for holding an independent, impartial and fair inquiry, the J&K High Court Bar Association, Jammu held a protest Dharna in District Courts Complex in the morning.
While addressing the Dharna, the speakers mulled legal action through a team of senior Lawyers, against those who are indulging in false propaganda through media and to file criminal complaints against those who are openly writing defamatory material against the Association and its members and contemptuous language against the judiciary.
Reacting to certain news items that yesterday's Bandh was forcibly enforced by the members of the Association, President of J&K High Court Bar Association Jammu Sr. Advocate MK Bhardwaj refuted such false reporting and stated that it was peaceful and general public voluntarily participated in the same.
Responding to the statement of DGP appearing in a newspaper, President J&KHBAJ Sr. Advocate MK Bhardwaj reiterated its demand of free and fair inquiry in the matter and suspension of the police officials involved for holding an independent, impartial and fair inquiry and further stated that any ex parte inquiry held by the police is not at all acceptable to it.
Later, in the evening a candle light protest march in which a large number of lawyers participated, started from Maheshpura Chowk and culminated at Jewel Chowk after passing through Bakshi Nagar Bazar, Canal Road Bazar and Krishna Nagar Bazar. J&KHCBA Jammu extends its thanks to the Bar Associations of Districts and Muffasils including Reasi, Katra, Poonch, Rajouri, Samba, Kathua, Hiranagar, Ramban, Batote, Bhaderwah, Kishtwar, Doda, Udhampur, Bishnah, R.S.Pura, Akhnoor, Nowshera, Bhillawer, Bani, Majalata, Ramnagar, Chenani, Banihal, Thathri, Basohli, Sunderbani, Mendhar, Surankote who also suspended work in Courts while showing solidarity with the J&K High Court Bar Assocaition, Jammu against the unfortunate incident and further held protest demonstrations and appealed them to continue the same until the demand of JKHCBA was not conceded.
