Quiz competition held at GDC Udhampur

Udhampur, Sept 28 : Hindi Saptah, being organized by Post Graduate Department of Hindi of Government Degree College, Udhampur, concluded here today with an inter-college Quiz Competition on Hindi Vyakaran.
Five teams from GDC Ramnagar, Government College for Women Udhampur, Baskar Degree College, Bhartya College of Education and the host College participated. College Principal S S Bhalwal was the Chief Guest on this occasion whereas Prakash Premi and Dr Adarsh Prakash were the special guests.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest lauded the efforts of PG Department of Hindi for organizing various activities for the students of the college. "I am delighted over the week long celebrations by the Hindi Department. This event has been very fruitful as is evident from the enthusiasm and performance of the students. Being a college offering Post Graduate Course in Hindi enhances our social responsibility to produce efficient language users. It is a rare platform where an interaction with the learned scholars of Hindi literature has been arranged. The college will always support any initiatives for the promotion of Hindi," he added.
Prakash Premi recited his well-acclaimed poem on the neglect that has been meted out to Hindi language despite its immense significance in India and potential to be a link language in the era of technology.
He said that it is our psychological slavery towards western languages that hampers the growth of this language. He emphasized that the correct form of Hindi needs to be taught, spoken and promoted. He also quoted some sutras that help students remember the correct sounds of alphabet and their origin. He said that the prime minister has honored Hindi by deciding to address UN Council in this language and has given exemplary encouragement to its use even at the global level. Dr Adarsh Prakash emphasized the importance of correct pronunciation. "Well articulated language attracts the listeners and makes them its users. Though Hindi has been a victim of political neglect yet today this is the second biggest spoken language in the world. This has been possible because of its potential and efficiency," he added The programme started with the Sarswati Vandana followed by welcome address by Prof. Sudhir Singh, HOD P.G Department of Hindi who also presented report of week-long activities. Prizes & Certificates were also distributed among the winners and participants of various competitions during the week. The team of GDC Udhampur (Rimpi Bajyal, Shivanni & Vikram Singh) won the quiz competition and was given a cash prize of Rs. 900 whereas GCW Udhampur ( Ranjana Devi, Shilpa Devi &Taniksha) got the second prize of Rs. 600. There was a tie for the third prize between Bhartiya College of Education (Rashi Verma, Sunali Devi & Mukesh Kumar) and GDC Ramnagar (Pooja Devi, Boby Gupta & Rumal Singh). Each was given a cash prize of Rs.400. Sunamika Gandhi presented vote of thanks. Sachin Raina conducted the proceeding as quiz master.
