| DGP Rajendra to crack whip on corrupt police officials | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 28: Director General Police K Rajendra is set to crack a strong whip against the corrupt and malicious elements in the police force. The DGP has taken strong view of the allegations being leveled against some SHOs and also some senior officials who with their wrong deeds are denting the image of the police force. DGP, who took course to law when his close kin was involved in an accident, has decided to take hard on, on corrupt elements. Sources said the DGP is shortly going to make an internal inquiry and will then most likely initiate a process of the corrupt officers. According to sources, the DGP has received complaints that some corrupt officials have appointed middle man to collect money. "Such middle men on getting tip from the SHO start bargaining with the accused for hefty money with a promise to dilute the case. The SHO doesn't come into the picture himself but all negotiations are done by him. The bargaining starts at even Rs 15 lakh. It's sickening and preposterous and it will not continue for long anymore," said a senior official. Sources said some SHOs have even 'appointed' middle men who pose as political worker in the public but continue to do the shady work. "A particular SHO, whose jurisdiction includes the best localities of the Jammu town, has appointed a person his middle man, who is now a low level political worker of a national party, and who had shifted many businesses before, makes bargain for this particular SHO and he is the first in the firing line of the DGP," said the official. "Rajendra is unlike his predecessor. He has upheld the police values always and has led from the front especially in hard times of terrorism. He is hell bent on breaking corrupt nexus and will set an example of some officers first, to send the message," said an official. |
