| Flood waters recede, but anguish remains! | | | Shakeel A Khan
SRINAGAR, Sept 28: As the flood waters are receding in the Kashmir Valley, the politicians from the ruling alliance have begun to come out in a bid to lure the commoners. The leaders of the coalition have begun to make the statements from their hideouts as they have no courage to face the genuine anger of the people as they were let down during hours of crisis. It is not a tough job to announce relief packages in terms of free ration and rehabilitation measures. It can be done by any person on the earth. The claims of the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah only sometime before that he will empty the state coffers for the people of the state has proved to be a poll gimmick since he failed to come true to the expectations of the people. "In this hour of tragedy, Chief Minister should have lived and died with the people because people had voted him for the same. He himself should have rowed the boat through the turbulent waters to enquire about the welfare of the people when there were apprehensions that people of Srinagar are no more. Instead he took shelter at some safe place, leaving the people to bear the brunt of the flood," said a visibly perturbed man namely Showkat Ahmad from Bemina Srinagar, while talking to Early Times. Showkat asked as to where are the firebrand leaders of the coalition parties. "Where are the leaders like Mustafa Kamal, Nasir Aslam Wani who always have a say in government's decisions?" he asked. In the times of natural calamities, tricks don't work. The loss in terms of the lives cannot be compensated by announcing relaxation in the upper age limit or by giving two years extension in the services of the employees. Natural calamities demand a quick and sincere response from the people at the helm of the affairs. These situations have no scope for the lip services. "The coalition government has nothing to say as it stands exposed completely. It is quite unwanted for, on Part of Ghulam Nabi Azad, the leader of opposition in the parliament to say that he cannot blame Omar for not coming true to the expectations in the hours of crisis. Wasn't it the right time for Omar Abdullah to act when he claims that he is the true voice of the people," said Bashir Ahmad from Bemina, who has lost everything in the flood fury. Bashir said that the tactics of the coalition partners aren't going to work any longer because the flood has not only washed away the people but the coalition government also. Bashir advocates governor's rule in the state before the assembly elections so that people taste in a different way. |
