Hajin under curfew after Sarpanchs death

BANDIPORA, Nov 27 : Curfew has been imposed in major parts of Hajin area in Sonawari assembly constituency of Bandipora district in north Kashmir, after a NC Sarpanch succumbed to his injuries on Thursday.
According to sources that National Conference (NC) Sarpanch (village head) was injured in a scuffle with a gas dealer in north Kashmir's Bandipora district.
Abdul Rashid Koubli (45) suffered head injuries after being hit with some hard object by Shakeel Ahmad Khan, an LP gas dealer, during a scuffle over some issue yesterday, sources said.
Manzoor Ahmad a local resident of Kathpora said that Rashid had been shifted from a local hospital to the Sheri Kashmir Institute of Medical Science (SKIMS) Soura Srinagar where he succumbed to his injuries today.
However an eyewitness said that as the news of Sarpanchs death spread to the village, Shops were closed and massive protest broke out in the area.
The village-head not only abused my nephew but also manhandled him after which people pounced on him, said eyewitness.
They said that Shakeel Khan didn't gave him (Sarpanch) a gas cylinder as Kabuli had campaigned for National Conference in the area.
Early Times have learnt from reliable sources that several shops were also set ablaze as the news of death spread in the area.
"It is very unfortunate that such things are still happening in the name of politics, as yesterday we saw that hundreds of apple trees were chopped down here by miscreants in an act of political vengeance on the evening of polling days, sources said.
A senior police official from Sumbal Bandipora told early times that, "a curfew has been imposed in Hajin and its adjoining areas after the news of his death spread. Abdul Rashid Koubli suffered head injuries after being hit with some hard object by Shakeel Ahmad Khan an LP gas dealer official added that during a scuffle after the gas vendor allegedly denied him a cylinder. A police official said they had imposed restriction after mobs went violent. "We are monitoring the situation and law will takes it course of action," he maintained. Jammu and Kashmir Police have registered a case and arrested Shakeel Khan, LP gas dealer.
A huge contingent of police and paramilitary personnel has been deployed in the area. Meanwhile Authorities imposed restrictions at Kathpora area of Hajin in district Bandipora on Thursday after protests over the death turned violent. Police fired many rounds in air to disperse the violent protesters.
