Union RDD Ministry seeks photographs of assets created under MGNREGA | Three months on, JK Govt fails to submit details, gets reminder | | Akshay Azad Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 27: The state Government is reportedly turned a deaf ear to the directions of the Union Government on submitting photographs of assets created under MGNREGA. The photos were sought three months ago by the ministry of RDD. Sources informed Early Times that on September 5, 2014, Principal Secretary in-charge Mahatma Gandhi NREGA, Union Department of Rural Development/Panchayati Raj had forwarded a letter to Jammu and Kashmir Rural Development Department, asking latter to send photographs of assets created under MGNREGA. The Union Ministry had sought photographs in a view of their decision to photo-document the sustainable assets created under MGNREGA, nationwide as part of bringing out a book featuring 1000 such photographs. According to the letter sent by Union Ministry, the copy of which is with Early Times, it was also maintained that to facilitate speedy documentation of such sustainable assets created under MGNREGA, the Ministry had also deputed a photographer. But after the lapse of nearly three months, the Jammu and Kashmir RDD had failed to do needful, and on November 21, Union Rural development/Panchayati Raj Ministry has shot a reminder to state, for its failure to do needful. According to the reminder letter, the Principal Secretary Incharge MGNREGA has expressed concern and termed the failure of state Government to send photographs as unfortunate. "Unfortunately there is no response from your state. As we are running out of time we request you to expedite the process and submit the photographs without further delay", the letter concluded. The photo documentation of assets created under MGNREGA is also important in view of large scale embezzlement of funds in the works across country. |
