Won't compromise on CM's post: BJP legislators | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 30: Newly elected BJP legislators have reportedly conveyed it to the party top brass that they would prefer to sit in opposition rather than giving up their demand for Chief Minister from Jammu region. Sources told Early Times that the BJP leaders who met here today to discuss the situation in backdrop of the fractured mandate are understood to have told the BJP senior leader Ram Madhav that party cannot give up its main demand and party leadership should not compromise on it. "BJP has got the maximum vote share in the recent assembly elections and it deserves the CM's post. If PDP or any other party which is willing to enter into an alliance with BJP doesn't agree to have a Chief Minister from Jammu region talks should be called off. Let PDP, NC and Congress form a grand alliance BJP would gladly sit in opposition and fight for people's cause," sources quoted BJP leaders from Jammu region as having conveyed it to Madhav. Earlier, Madhav along with BJP State chief Jugal Kishore Sharma called on Governor N N Vohra at Raj Bhawan here and discussed the situation with him. Meanwhile, BJP State president and MP Jugal Kishore Sharma while addressing a news conference here said that all options for BJP are open on the Government formation in the state but the party would not compromise on Chief Minister's post. He said no Government was possible without BJP when a reporter told him that People's Democratic Party (PDP) has hinted on formation of a grand alliance. The BJP chief said that formation of alliance between PDP, NC and Congress would be an insult to mandate of people and it would not work. Sharma said that BJP leaders would meet the Governor again on January 1 and would submit the proposal for government formation in the state. Pertinently, PDP has emerged as a single largest party by securing highest number of 28 seats in the recently held assembly polls , while BJP bagged 25 seats, and NC and Congress bagged 15 and 12 seats respectively. The tenure of the present coalition government is ending on January - 16. |
