BARAMULLA, Dec 30: People from rural and far flung areas of Baramulla district in North Kashmir face acute shortage of essential commodities like rice, flour, Sugar and Kerosene during the harsh winter. According to sources that, hundreds of people in rural and far flung areas of Kandi belt of Wagoora and Kreeri thesils face acute shortage of essentials during harsh winter, people allege that despite arrival of thousands of loaded trucks with essential items are facing shortage of ration. Scores of villages like Darwa, Monagam, Wagila, Shrakwara, Wizer, Khaitangan, Najibhat,Freshar, Waripora, Dardapora, Sheikhpora, and other adjoinig areas are without essentials. Mohammad Ramzan of Freshar told Early Times that majority of depots of CA&PD in the district particularly in rural and far-flung areas, are without stock for the past one month, forcing people to purchase rice and sugar from the market. "Government instead of trotting out statistics should try to reach out to people and take special measures for solution of this grave problem, the essentials meant for public are supplied to blue eyed persons, local alleges. Another local resident Bashir Ahmad said that, "we are without essential commodities from past one month, I have purchased rice and flour from market and the irony is our rations depots are without essential stocks. Locals demand that Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CA&PD) department should intervene into the matter so that they will not suffer in the coming months, as they are without essential stocks during these days. People from other areas like Khaitangan, Najibhat, Shrakwara and Wizer are also facing the same problems from last one and half months. They complained that people are on verge of starvation in these areas. People from other far flung areas of Baramulla district are also complaining the same problems that the ration depots are empty. People are expressing deep concern over the shortage of essential commodities in the district. However early times have learnt from sources that people want to store the essentials in advance, so that they could not face any sort of problems in the coming months. A senior official from CAPD told Early Times that all essential items are available in depots maintaining that there is an adequate supply of rice and flour. "There might be some complaints from hilly areas and we will look into the matter regarding the shortage of essentials in the district, official added. |
