5 walnut trees fall to PDA inaction | | | Saahil Suhail

Anantnag, Dec 30: With authorities acting as mute spectators, influential violators after constructing the huts and hotels illegally in Movera area of Pahalgam, have chopped off walnuts trees. Reports said that few affluent violators mostly city residents have so far chopped off five walnut trees by using heavy machinery like JCB during the night. Locals told Early Times that violators cutting down walnut trees to clear the view of their illegally constructed hotels. "Illegal activities took place every night here with the permission of officials as they have a well established nexus with them. So now a day's those who have completed the constructions is busy in chopping off the walnut trees." Ali Mohd, a resident said. He said that violators are uprooting the trunks of walnut tress by JCB's during the night and are completely destroying the evidences of this illegal activity. "These days officials of PDA and revenue are enjoying, no one among them since elections concluded have visited this area, neither the employees of Pahalgam Development authority who are supposed to control the violations." Locals told Early Times. Tehsildar Pahalgam when contacted said that the area falls under the Tehsil Sallar. "Movera is not now in my jurisdiction so it would be better to contact Tehsildar Sallar." He added. However, Tehsildar Sallar not attended the repeated calls from Early Times. |
