J&K needs a strong & stable Govt | | | As far as the political and security scenario is concerned Jammu and Kashmir state continues to be different from other states in north India. As such any half-hearted political experiment could prove counter productive for the maintenance of peace and law and order in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The four mainstream political parties, the PDP, BJP, National Conference and the Congress have to shun their egos and help one another in the formation of a durable and strong Government in the state.A strong and stable Government will be a proper reply to the voters, who braved chill to cast their votes without breaking heads of one another. It was really an incident free election which also was free of any malpractices and rigging .Hence people deserve a good Government that is able to resolve peoples' problems, especially the problem of unemployment. If people have voted in large numbers they expect a Government that settles various political and economic problems facing the state. Since the Pakistan sponsored insurgency in Jammu and Kashmir is yet to die its own death the state needs a strong and stable Government which could instill confidence among people so that they were not forced to play the second fiddle to the militants or they were not forced to toe the separatists' line. At least voters deserve the credit for having ignored separatists' call for poll boycott and if they did so they did not cast their votes for an unstable or weak Government,a Government that has no idea of bringing about economic prosperity.Secondly,if the state has a stable and strong Government it could prevent militants from recruiting boys from Kashmir in their outfits.Security forces, besides the Army, will find atmosphere conducive for launching multidimensional operations against the militants.Troops deployed on the LOC and on the IB would feel free to intensify their anti-ingress operations. They would feel free in upgrading the anti-infiltration grid so that not a single militant was able to sneak into Jammu and Kashmir for destabilizing peace.Once the ingress level touched zero per cent it would ensure peace and political stability. Above all the state of Jammu and Kashmir has been plagued by regional discrimination. And the very regional imbalance has,at times, resulted in regional polarization. And the recent Assembly election has seemingly provided an opportunity for the BJP and the PDP to end this regional discrimination and disparity. It is so because the BJP represents the aspirations of the people of Jammu region, from where it won 25 seats out of 37 and those from the Kashmir valley find themselves represented by the PDP,which won 28 seats,25 from the Valley out of 37. Hence an alliance between the BJP and the PDP could be a symbol for alliance between the regions of Jammu and Kashmir. There can be another alternative which is called the grand alliance of non-BJP parties.First of the possibilities for the PDP and the National Conference to shake hands are remote.Secondly, this grand alliance may not truly represent the aspirations of the people of Kashmir and Jammu regions. And there is an inherent danger of this grand alliance. The possibility for inter-party conflict in grand alliance can be bigger than the conflict one witnessed between the National Conference and the Congress during the last six years. Yes,there are inherent ideological differences between the PDP and the BJP but the two can join hands provided their leaders consider the state's interest more than the party interest.Once the two decide to cooperate and collaborate there is no harm if the two make some compromises and that too in the interest of peace and progress of Jammu and Kashmir. |
