12/31/2014 12:03:33 AM
R.B. Suri

Bounded by the
Karakoram and
Himalayan mountains Ladakh is the largest province in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The landscape of Ladakh, a high altitude desert, is designed by craggy, barren cliffs and plateaus. Ladakh is a favourite among adventure sports, enthusiast, offering unique adventures in trekking, mountaineering and white water rafting. While rafting options are available on Indus and Zanskar Rivers, the Zanskar course is more difficult and exciting and a lot more....
One can witness the best samples of the regions performing Arts, Archery contents and the Ladakh polo cup.
Ladakhis are very gentle, god fearing and patriotic people of the State of Jammu & Kashmir.
They are very close to the Nature. Subjects living therein are mostly Budhists. They worship Lord Budha. In these winter days, they face lot of hardships in passing their lives. They always have high and genuine expectations from the Rulers.
The State of Jammu & Kashmir witnessed two Elections in the year 2014 i. e. Lok Sabha and J&K Assembly.
In 16th Lok Sabha Elections 2014, three MP seats each bagged by BJP and PDP. Anantnag, Baramulla and Srinagar seats gone into the pocket of PDP whereas the rest three-Udhampur, Jammu and Ladakh into the pocket of BJP.
As PDP candidates , Ms. Mehbooba Mufti won the Anantnag seat by securing 200429 votes defeating her nearest arrival of National Conference candidate Syed Abid Ahmed Shah, Muzzafar Hussain Baig won the Baramulla seat by securing 175277 votes defeating his nearest arrival of National Conference candidate Sharif ud Din Shariq and Tariq Hamid Karra won the Srinagar seat by securing 157923 votes defeating his nearest arrival of National Conference Patron Dr. Farooq Abdullah .
As BJP candidates, Dr. Jitendra Singh (MOS- PMO) won the Udhampur/ Doda/Kathua seat by securing 487369 votes defeating his nearest arrival of Indian National Congress and ex- Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, Jugal Kumar Sharma won the Jammu/ Poonch seat by securing 257280 votes defeating his nearest arrival of Indian National Congress Mr. Madan Lal Sharma and it is very pertinent to mention here that Ladakh seat was bagged by Thupstan Chhewang of BJP by securing 31111 votes defeating his nearest arrival Independent candidate Ghulam Raza.
In Lok Sabha Elections 2014, by electing Thupstan Chhewang as their Member of Parliament who contested his election on BJP ticket, Ladakhis have strengthened the hands of Bhai Narendra Modi in forming the NDA led Government at the Centre and also shown their patriotism towards the Nation. In Lok Sabha elections they have shown their wisdom thereby leaving aside the petty state issues but they preferred strong and progressive Government at National level.
Earlier in 15th Lok Sabha Elections 2009 , Ladakhis elected Haji Ghulam Hassan Khan as their MP who contested the election as an independent candidate on denial of mandate from the National Conference.
After the election he returns back to the NC fold again.
But at the same time when the time of State Assembly Election came, they gave the due concentration and weightage to the local issues facing the state and their locality, they supported the candidates of the Indian National Congress who won three seats namely, Nobra , Leh and Kargil and the 4th one i.e. Zanskar Assembly Constituency had gone in favour of an independent candidate Syed Mohd. Baqir Rizvi who defeated his nearest arrival Ghulam Raza. From Nobra Assembly Constituency, Deldan Namgali won the election as Indian National Congress candidate defeating his nearest arrival Tsetan Namgyal of National Conference.
From Leh Assembly Constituency, Nawang Rigzin Jora as an Indian National Congress candidate won the elections defeating his nearest arrival Chering Dorjay of BJP and from Kargil Assembly Constituency , Asgar Ali Karblai of Indian National Congress won the elections defeating his nearest arrival Annayat Ali of National Conference. In the past two decades or so, they ( Ladakhis ) went on demanding the Union Territory (UT) Status for Ladakh as a whole.
Their this demand is genuine and pending since long. Now by strengthening the hands of Narendra Bhai, they want to see their dreams achieved by exerting due and just genuine pressure on the Prime Minister of the country to accede to their genuine demand of UT. Giving a chance to the BJP led national government at the Centre, they took a wise decision in totality in achieving their goal o acquiring UT status. While giving their mandate in Assembly elections, they thought proper to support the Indian National Congress for raising their local issues in the state Assembly and for their logical conclusions. Since Independence, Leh and Kargil areas and its subjects were at the helm of affairs of Indian National Congress.
Its leaders were fully involved in getting their important works done from the corridors of power. INC people prevailed upon throughout.
With the spreading of education in the areas of Ladakh and Kargil, subjects of this beautiful land seen the life of the day and started going ahead in their respective fields independently without remaining dependent on others.
While remaining in the democratic set up, people of these areas get awakened and started fighting for their genuine causes.
They in the past launched various agitations and ultimately they succeeded in having two full fledge Autonomous Hill Development Councils i.e. One for Leh and the other for Kargil. Now exactly like JK Assembly, these Councils are working and yielding the desired results in the very interests of this beautiful and attractive land and its subjects .
Not only this, they fought bravely with the cloud bursts disaster which ruined the entire area almost 5 years back. Hundreds of people were killed and there were losses to the tune of hundreds of crores. At that time no could believe that the situation in Ladakh and its adjacent areas would go as normal. They with their strong will and courage faced the sufferings and ultimately succeeded in upcoming out of the clutches of natural calamity.
Since my focus in this Article is about wisdom of Ladakhis in Decision making, It becomes obligatory on my part to give some relevant informations to the readers about Population, Area, Rivers, Lakes, Poulation Density etc. etc.The literacy rate of Leh is 62.24% with having a population to the order of 117637 and population density as 3 persons per one Sq. KM. Some other relevant features required to be mentioned here are that the Leh is having an area of 44000 Sq. KMs. and altitude ranging from 2900 Meters to 5900 Meters and beautiful lakes of Tsokar, Pangong, Tsomoriri famous Rivers -Indus , Zanskar and Shyok.
In 1995, the Union Government approved the formation of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council which gave Ladakhis in the Leh District some administrative and financial powers to develop the old and rich culture.
Dominated by Muslims, Ladakhis felt that they were neglected and demanded a UT status to be governed directly from New Delhi. Prior to 1979 Ladakh was one district.
Two districts were created and named as Leh and Kargil.
For achieving the goal of streamlined development of both the districts .
The Ladakhis are soft spoken, gentle, and very polite.
They are simple and neither argumentative nor aggressive. During the recently held Lok Sabha elections in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, they felt convinced that the present Prime Minister Narendra Bhai Modi would certainly agree for granting the Union Territory status to Ladakh.
They demanded the UT status for Ladhakh for the following reasons:-
1. They want that they should directly be governed by GOI , New Delhi owing to the reason that they want the regular and un- interrupted liberal funding from the Central Government for overall development of their region which faced/ still facing discriminatory treatment at the hands of Jammu and Kashmir Government.2.There should not be any interference from J&K Govt. at all in their areas/region owing to the reason that in the past they have been ditched and discriminated fully.
After studying the things in depthly particularly Ladakh and its subjects one can reach at this conclusion that the people of this land are very intelligent, talented and well awared. They know well- when to rise, when to fight, when to act upon and when to encash the things in their just and genuine interests. "KEHTE HAIN KE PARMATMA UNKA SAATH DETA HAI;
JO APNI MADAD AAP KARTAIN HAIN."
