Early Times Report

Samba, Feb 11: The alleged inordinate delay in releasing funds for the three Power Receiving Stations at Samba are putting spoke in the progress of the project and thenece is resulting into inconvenience to residents of the Samba and its adjoining areas.
The three Megawatt Power Receiving Stations at Satah, Dhalote and Rehian in Samba were approved some twelve (12) years ago under the centrally sponsored Rural Electrification Scheme (RES). Sources in the Power Development Department (PDD) said a grant of about Rs 45 lakh was released for each power receiving station initially by the central government, but the department failed to complete the project in time. "The RES was a time bound scheme. The department could ask for more funds only if work on the project progressed quickly. But the department failed to get more funds reasons better known to the authorities and the project is in doldrums, sources said and added that department virtually has failed to meet deadline on the project which now has now been closed chapter under the centrally sponsored scheme RES. "The stations are almost complete with regard to the construction of physical infrastructure; the equipments required for the stations are yet to be acquired, they said. "The department is now in the process of acquiring funds under the transmission and distribution quota of the state government, they said. The PDD, according to the sources, would require nearly Rs 30 lakh each to make the stations operational. 'Though the department has written many letters to higher authorities about the funds, but nothing has been done so far, they said. "We are awaiting funds to make the stations functional," the PDD's Executive Engineer, Ashwani Sachdeva said. "The PDD, Sachdeva said, "we are in touch with the higher authorities on the issue and will get equipments installed once the requisite funds are released."
Whatever the reasons be but the residents of Samba and adjoining areas demand electricity so as to get their issues to be addressed. The people lament that repeated requests to senior authorities till the date have fallen to deaf ears.
