7 years on, JKPCC completes just 50 percent work on SDH Chenani building | | | Bijay Charak
Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 14: The Jammu and Kashmir Projects Construction Corporation (JKPCC) has not only failed to meet the deadline in the construction of Sub District Hospital (SDH) Chenani , seven years after it took over the project, only 50 percent construction work has been completed. Sources informed Early Times that the JKPCC had started the construction work of SDH building Chenani in the year 2007 at an estimate cost of around Rs. 16 crores but seven years later, the project is far from completion , escalating the project cost and causing huge inconvenience to the people of the area. "It is very surprising that in DPR, the construction work had to be completed in 36 months i.e in September, 2010 , but astoundingly yet the corporation has only completed Emergency block, OPD block and IPD/OT block", sources said, adding that the corporation has still not taken up the construction work of staff quarters for Doctors, Paramedical and construction for Garage and accommodation. Moreover the work on the approach road to hospital is still in initial phase o construction. When contacted, Deputy General Manager Udhampur Arshid Mir said that the Health and Medical Education department didn't release funds timely due to which the construction work was stopped. However, the work had to be halted for six months in 2011-12 as bricks were not available but the major reason was non- availability of funds due to which the work was stopped several times. "In March, 2014 the health department had released around Rs. 5 crore which is 50 percent of total cost, even then the corporation has completed lot of work on the project costing Rs. 10.2 crore", Mir said, adding that during the previous month government released Rs. 1.5 crore but till date the funds were not credited in the account of JKPCC. |
