Wah Taj! Leaked letter makes Taj's rift with Sham public | | | Peerzada Ummer Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Apr 14: The fissures between two senior Congress leaders, who were also ministers in the previous NC-Congress coalition government, are out in the open now. The rift became public after a letter by Taj Mohi-ud-Din got leaked on Monday in which he had complained before the then Chief Minister Omar Abdullah about PHE minister Sham Lal Sharma. Taj, sports minister in the coalition government, had shot the letter on May 28, 2013, expressing serious concern over the work going on at the snail's pace on various projects. Sharma was appointed as the PHE minister after Taj got the portfolio of Medical Education and Sports. Taj had referred to the construction of balance portion, extension of main Ravi Canal upstream Ravi River from Basantpur right up to the inflow of reservoir of Ranjit Sagar Dam, Tawi barrage and Wular barrage. He had lamented that there was no progress over the projects since the day he left the ministry. The letter not only exposed the severe rift within the state Congress but also gave a picture about the functioning of the previous government in which the ministers would secretly write letters to the Chief Minister and complain against each other. Even when the floods devastated Kashmir in September last, Taj had trained guns at Sharma, accusing him of adopting a 'casual approach' during the situation due to which Srinagar and other areas of the Valley got drowned. Taj had also alleged that Sharma, who was also MLA Akhnoor at that time, had stopped dredging work in the Kashmir Valley when he was the Flood Control minister which aggravated the situation. Earlier on April 25, 2013, heated arguments were witnessed between Taj and Sharma during a vital government meeting. Omar Abdullah had to end the meeting midway. Though both Taj and Sharma earlier used to deny reports of any rift between them, the former's letter has exposed the state Congress. "Within the state Congress, the two senior voices complaining before the Chief Minister who belonged to the National Conference, must have been quite an embarrassment for the 10 Janpath," said a political analyst. |
