Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 14: While people and political parties are holding protest demonstrations against the BJP's anti-Jammu policies, the state BJP president and Lok Sabha MP from Jammu-Poonch parliamentary constituency Jugal Kishore Sharma, is asking the people to adopt Yoga.On Tuesday, Sharma assured them full support in promoting what he called "noble cause (yoga) to every nook and corner so that the people of the State will live in happily and healthy lifestyle" and announced that "we will celebrate International Yog Day all across the country onJune 21 as announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi". He visited Bhartiya Yog Sansthan Ashram at Gol Gujjral on the occasion of Yog Divas Tuesday and made these statements.
He didn't express solidarity with those in Jammu who had been attacking the BJP and demanding justice for Jammu region. On Tuesday, when Sharma was asking the people to adopt Yoga, a number of political and civil society groups organized demonstrations at different places in the region and passed anti-BJP resolutions.
In Jammu, it was the Congress which took up the Jammu cause and accused the BJP of surrendering the sanctioned All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS)-type institute to Kashmir, charged it with giving up its ideology for the sake power and threatened a Jammu-wide agitation in case the AIIMS was not established in Jammu. It was interesting to see the Congress which, like the BJP, sold out Jammu's all interests all these years, speaking for Jammu region.
In Jammu, two other anti-Jammu events took place on Tuesday. One, the Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association, Jammu, condemned the BJP and its decision to transfer AIIMS to Kashmir. Its members held the BJP-led NDA Government responsible for giving a "step motherly treatment to people of Jammu Division yet again" and asked, "How and why the decision has been reversed and now the institute is to be set up in Kashmir?" The Bar Association also adopted a unanimous resolution which said that "the Central Government should reconsider the decision in view of (unambiguous) announcement made by the Union Finance Minister" and that "setting up of AIIMS at Jammu would not only be in the larger interest of the people of the state but also of adjoining States like Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana".
Two, Kranti Dal condemned the BJP for ignoring rural areas and weaker sections while nominating MLCs to the Legislative Council. Its president said that the BJP focused only on a single constituency (Jammu East) while nominating MLCs, which "shows step-motherly policy of BJP towards the rural workers of party and weaker section especially Rajouri-Poonch,Udhampur, Doda and Kathua areas. It also lambasted the BJP for nominating the newcomer to the BJP, Ajat Shatru Singh, to the Legislative Council. "The BJP focused only on royal families who have no contribution made to the development and unity of Jammu. The BJP is also applying the same Congress policy which was recently rejected by the people of Jammu," it also said. Jammu East, the smallest constituency in Jammu region, has two MLAs, including the one who was nominated in a hush hush manner, and three MLCs, Ashok Khajria, Ramesh Arora and Ajat Shatru Singh.
Two more anti-BJP developments took place on Tuesday but outside the Jammu city. In Ramban, the National Panthers Party organized an impressive demonstration and march against the BJP and the issues it took up included the transfer of AIIMS to Kashmir, refusal to grant Dogra certificate to the Jammu youth and the failure of the BJP to set up a delimitation commission. And at Vijaypur, former Minister and JKPCC general secretary staged a largely attended protest against the BJP-led NDA government at the centre for "adopting discriminatory attitude towards Jammu division and accused the BJP of giving AIIMS to Kashmir neglecting Jammu region.
Significantly, the BJP, which has more than half a dozen spokespersons, has been maintaining a stoic silence and not issuing any statement to counter the anti-BJP propaganda. It is clear the BJP spokespersons have no argument to advance who have revolted against the BJP.
