Early Times Report

BARAMULLA, Apr 2: The sub district trauma hospital Pattan has not been made operational yet.
According to sources, the Health department has failed to make this trauma hospital operational yet due to which people are facing numerous problems in general and the injured patients are being treated in other hospitals where they are lacking the facilities which they should have been.
The construction of Pattan Sub District Trauma Hospital was started in 2002 which itself speaks about non seriousness of the concerned authorities towards crucial life saving centre, sources told early times.
Sources said that, "the trauma hospital provides specialized treatment and resources to patients suffering from various types of injuries, unfortunately appropriate measures should have been taken to make it functional to reduce the likelihood of death or permanent disability to injured patients.
The concerned authorities are least bothered about the lives of common masses that are getting injured in day today accidents in and around north Kashmir as the hospital were supposed to be made functional from August 2015, adding that many deadlines have crossed till date, but the question is that who will bell the cat, said a resident of Pattan Bashir Ahmad (name changed).
He says, "On routine basis lot of accidents are taking place on the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad National Highway, this hospital can save many lives if it would be made functional in time.
Due to non operational Truma Hospital the patient has to be rushed to hospitals in Srinagar areas for treatment which takes a lot of time and sometimes the patient dies on way to hospital, said a group of people.
They said that, this trauma sub-district hospital is spread over around 40 kanals of land at Babteng Pattan over which worth Rupees crores have been spent so for, and at the same time one fails to understand that why contractors have not being paid till date which needs to be enquired from the concerned department.
If sources are to be believed then there is a political difference due which funds are not being released in favour of these contractors who have worked day and night to get it completed in a stipulated period of time.
Though from the point of infrastructure, the building of the hospital is complete but the non-clearance of the liabilities has forced the contractors to stop their work on the hospital, sources mentioned.
Meanwhile a well reputed trauma surgeon on anonymity conditions said that, there is a dire need to make this trauma hospital operational as many accidents are taking place every day.
He said that, "This hospital needs 24-hour availability of a team of specially trained health care providers who have expertise in the care of severely injured patients including trauma surgeons, neurosurgeons, orthopaedic surgeons, anaesthetist and other knowing people from the department concerned.
