Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Apr 2: After three months of impasse the state is all set to witness a popular Government with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti all set to take oath as the new chief minister of Jammu & Kashmir onApril 4 in the morning.
Mehbooba is all set to don the mantle of Jammu & Kashmir chief minister with Governor Narendra Nath Vohra administering the oath of office and secrecy at a function to be held at Jammu, the winter capital of the state on Mondaymorning. On the same date, the three month old Governor Rule would come to an end in the state.
Jammu & Kashmir was placed under Governor Rule on January 8 following the demise of then chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. With Mufti's demise the 10 month old coalition Government of PDP and Bharatiya Janta Party came to an end with the state being placed under the Governor Rule.
Although, the PDP and BJP leaders tried their best to convince Mehbooba to take oath at the earliest, she refused the same saying that since she is under shock she cannot do it. Later on the PDP President toughened her stand and demanded that the central Government led by BJP should take 'concrete' steps so that the Agenda of Alliance stitched between the coalition partners is implemented in letter and spirit.
The latest round of 'bonhomie' was sealed only after the meeting of PDP President with BJP President Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi at New Delhi in the middle of last month. Following the 'bonhomie' union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said that the central Government is ready to walk an extra mile so that the new Government in the state feels comfortable.
An official spokesman today said that Governor Vohra has invited the PDP President to form the next Government in the state. The official spokesman said that invitation to form the Government comes after the recent consultation carried out with the leaders of PDP and BJP in this regard.
"Governor N.N Vohra today invited Mehbooba Mufti, President J&K Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to form and lead the PDP-BJP coalition Government of Jammu and Kashmir. The Governor's invitation to Mufti follows the earlier discussions with the PDP and BJP Presidents regarding formation of Government in the State and the subsequent communications received from her and Sat Sharma, President, J&K BJP in regard to this matter," said the official spokesman.
The official spokesman said that the oath ceremony is scheduled to be held on Monday, April 4, 2016 at 11.00 A.M at Raj Bhavan, Jammu.
The venue of the oath taking ceremony has come in as surprise for many people since it was believed that it would be held at the Zorawar Singh auditorium of the Jammu University. The PDP leaders have dropped enough hints that the oath taking ceremony would be a low key affair. It is expected that some of the union ministers would be present at the oath taking ceremony of the new dispensation.
PDP continues to be single largest party in the 87 member state assembly with 27 seats followed by BJP with 25 seats. National Conference has 15 legislators with Congress party having 11 members in the present legislative assembly. The Anantnag assembly seat has fallen vacant following the death of former chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
