Fate of PDP rebels hangs in balance

Early Times Report
srinagar, Apr 2: As the Peoples Democratic Party President and Chief Minister designate Mehbooba Mufti is all set to take oath as the first woman Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, the former PDP Ministers, who were a part of the late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's Cabinet are hoping that they would once again find a place in the Council of Ministers and their attempt to raise a banner of revolt would be forgotten and they would get one more chance.
Sources told Early Times the former PDP Ministers are lobbying hard and are making all the possible attempts to ensure that they get their portfolios back. "At present the PDP President Mehbooba Mufti has handed over the party affairs to senior leaders Muzaffar Hussain Beigh and Tariq Hameed Karra and they are at the midst of finalizing the list of the PDP leaders who are likely to join Mehbooba's Cabinet," sources said.
They said a notion is being created that Mehbooba won't change her Cabinet and all the former PDP Ministers are in. "The fact of the matter is that these are all speculations and so far. The fate of former Ministers hangs in balance," sources added.
The PDP top leadership, according to the sources, is very well aware about the fact that a few "black-sheep" among them made an attempt to break the PDP and tried joining hands with BJP minus Mehbooba Mufti and others. "A former Minister who was assigned the job to garner the support of at least 15 PDP leaders to become the Chief Minister of JK is in a tight spot as Mehbooba outwitted all the rebels, including him, and managed to strike a deal with BJP on her own and that too at the highest level," sources added.
They said the former PDP Ministers during the past few days have been making rounds around Mehbooba's Fair View residence at Gupkar here and are trying their best to find a way to become the part of the decision making process. "Till now Mehbooba Mufti has not opened her cards and has not even uttered a word about who would join her Cabinet. She has only said that what was with BJP would remain with it and what was with PDP would stay with the party," said a source.
He said the people who tried to encash the death of PDP patron late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and made an attempt to sideline the PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti won't find it easy to get their way. "By trying to indulge in a coup these leaders made Mehbooba and others to approach BJP leadership in Delhi in a jiffy and the issues which were raised by the PDP President after her father's death had to be brushed under the carpet. Had these rebels not tried to break the party, Mehbooba would have definitely sought some concessions from the Government of India," the source added.
He said, "Now the time has come to show them (rebels) their right place as all their moves have been foiled."
