| Register FIR against BJP minister for allegedly threatening Govt officer: Cong leader | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, June 22: Senior Congress party leader supported by the united opposition today created uproar in the Legislative Assembly over alleged misuse of power by a ruling BJP minister by threatening a government official and demanded action against the minister. When the proceedings began during Question Hour in Assembly, Congress legislative party leader & MLA, stood up to his bench and created uproar seeking immediate action against the minister. MLA waved a copy of an English newspaper that had reported that a senior government officer, has sought police protection and registration of an FIR against Minister of State for Transport Sunil Sharma for "threatening" him. Supported by other Congress MLAs, he said the minister was misusing his power to benefit his supporters. He told the Speaker to direct the government to probe the allegations of threatening the government officers leveled against the minister. MLA urged the Speaker to direct the police to register an FIR against the said minister. "The police, so far, have not registered an FIR against the said Minister. I request your good self to direct the government to refrain from threatening the government officials on one pretext or another. Further the police should immediately register an FIR against the minister," he said. MLA was later joined by the legislators from the National Conference who also sought action against the accused minister. During the protest the Congress members handed over the copy of the newspaper to the speaker. Meanwhile taking cognizance, the Speaker directed the government to look into the matter. |
