Fear of defeat forcing BJP lawmakers to oppose party line
Crisis in BJP

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 7: Under attack from all sides the state unit of the BJP may split sooner than latter. It was the BJP MP from Bihar and former Union Home Secretary RK Singh who took the lead in the Lok Sabha on Friday to attack the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Kashmir policy, which rattled the government and the BJP as a party for obvious reasons.
None had hoped that what RK Singh said in the Lok Sabha in the presence of all the top BJP ministers would have its impact on other party leaders/lawmakers, but it actually happened much to the surprise of the people. Ashok Khajuria, MLC and former state BJP chief, followed RK Singh the same day. In fact, he surprised everyone when he dismissed with contempt the PDP-BJP alliance and called it "unholy". Not just this, he went to the extent of saying that this coalition was not in the interest of the party and nation and also tore into the BJP ministers' irresponsible statements, including the statement that the killing of Burhan Wani was an accident.
However, what transpired on Saturday during the core committee meeting was more significant. Almost all those present in the meeting pitched for stringent action against those in Kashmir responsible for the current turmoil. "There should be an army march in Kashmir to send a right message to the trouble-makers" was one of the suggestions.
Very significantly, former state BJP vice-president and Kashmir parbhari took on the party ministers and warned that if they failed to perform and assert their authority, the party would suffer an irreparable damage. "They (BJP) minister must assert their authority or they should quit the government if they were not able to assert their authority," said MLC Ramesh Arora. Interestingly, Ashok Khajuriya was also present in the meeting.
Insiders inform that "not one but a number of others spoke against the BJP ministers and held them responsible for the whole mess created by their irresponsible statements and conduct". Insiders also inform that "certain members suggested that no one in the party should be allowed to make any policy statement and that there should be coordination between the ministers and the party".
All this suggests that the BJP lawmakers are under pressure and they want the party command to review its stand on Jammu and Kashmir, as also on the way it had been tackling the situation in Kashmir. In fact, sources close to the bigwigs in the party in Jammu suggest that the "party will split in case the party high command doesn't refashion its approach towards J&K".
