| Fearing contempt proceedings, Jammu police finally books its rogue inspector | | Senior officers turn blind eye as accused shames khaki everyday | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 7: After hoodwinking the court for months, Jammu police finally registered an FIR against its own inspector, who had assaulted a police constable while the latter was on duty. FIR no. 99/2016 u/s 332-RPC was registered against the accused inspector at police station Pacca Danga, on Saturday, months after police sat over the directions of a city court to book the erring inspector who had assaulted a constable.
The said inspector, who is posted in Counter intelligence wing of the CID, along with his goons attacked the constable who was on a patrol duty, after the latter stopped him from open hooliganism in inebriated state in Panjtirthi area of the city. Despite repeated efforts by the victim constable to get an FIR registered against the Inspector for his criminal act, Police not only refused to book the assaulter Inspector, but filed an FIR against the victim constable. The constable, identified as Manjit Singh then went to the court seeking justice. A competent court, taking cognizance of the complaint filed by the victim against the erring Inspector and his two accomplices identified as Karam Sharma and Babeshwar Jamwal, directed Police to register the case and investigate the matter, but it took police months to actually register a complaint against the rogue inspector.
The inspector who has a chequered service record and has even been dismissed from service once for his involvement in criminal activities; he was later reinstated following directions of court. He had also taken on a former SSP openly when he was intercepted by the latter in highly inebriated state.
The said inspector has been brazenly shaming the Khaki everyday by his rogue behaviour for years, but it is a pity that despite being aware of his highly objectionable conduct, the senior police officers have turned a blind eye to his misdeeds.
Sources disclose that this Police Inspector appears in the main market of Panjtirthi locality, just few meters from zonal police headquarters and indulges in unchecked goondaism; intimidating locals, passersby and shopkeepers along with a couple of goons of the area who are his accomplices. Locals divulged that the weekends are particularly frightening as the Inspector along with his goons resorts to complete vandalism in highly drunkard state and despite a police post in the vicinity; no one comes to the rescue of the residents who have to follow the dictates of the drunkard, abusive Inspector to avoid his ire.
It was during one of his brazen acts of goondaism in the area that the said Police constable who was on patrol duty had dared to stop him, following which the rogue inspector along with his goons attacked the constable. |
