Man held with fake 200 gun licenses released in lieu of money
SHO attempts to conceal fake gun racket
3/4/2018 11:28:15 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 4: At a time when Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) of Rajasthan is raiding Jammu and Kashmir in connection with fake gun racket, a 'corrupt' Station House Officer (SHO) released a resident of Uri who was reportedly detained with 200 fake gun licenses, last week.
If sources are to be believed, last week a Sub-Inspector who is posted as SHO of a police station in Jammu District detained a man who is resident of Uri and 200 fake gun licenses were also recovered from his possession. Sources further said that the SHO detained him for three days and asked him to arrange for a specified sum of money for his release and after striking deal with the man, SHO released him along with fake licenses, which were recovered from his possession.
"Even intelligence gathering wing of the police have knowledge of the incident but the SHO who has congenial relations with a senior officer has no fear of action", said a source adding that the senior officer has no knowledge of the wrong doing of the SHO.
Pertinent to mention here that a team of Rajasthan's Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) had visited Jammu and Kashmir for investigation into the racket involved in selling fake gun licenses and illegal weapons. The Rajasthan ATS has so far arrested 16 members of this gang including the kingpin, Zuber Khan from Ajmer, and interrogated nearly 100 people in the matter. The officials said that the gun licenses were prepared from different districts of the state.
The role of some Jammu and Kashmir officials is also under scanner, sources said.
Those who were interrogated have reportedly told the ATS officials said that the licenses were prepared in the backdates through middlemen in Jaipur, Udaipur and Ajmer. No police verification was ever conducted. Many people bought guns on the basis of these bogus gun licenses.
