BARAMULLA, Mar 17: Municipal Committee Baramulla that have left the shopkeepers and inhabitants of this north Kashmir has made life of people difficult.
Local shopkeepers of Auqaf Market, a central place of Baramulla town that is known for its business, has many times complained about the garbage that is thrown in the drains, on the by lanes.
Mohammad Muzaffar, a shopkeeper at the Auqaf Market said that there are irresponsible people in the department concerned who treat the environment very badly in every corner of the town. They just don't care. They're always selfish. What happens is that they don't realize how it affects others, be it shopkeepers, local residents or the visitors.
The heaps of garbage are haven to stray dogs that have made the life of people miserable, adding the waste materials on the streets causes many problems and its foul smell causes many hindrances for the people to pass through the streets, said Muzaffar.
He told early times that the school going children are facing problems while going to schools and on return as the stray dogs chase them and for all this the department should be held responsible.
Water pipes are broken and it passes over the drains and with the result it, the garbage stuck over the passing ends and it gets blocked, said a shopkeeper.
There are some selfish people in Municipal Community who are preventing staff and others to discharge their legitimate duties with the result the disposal of garbage in city gets affected.
A group of local residents of Jadeed Mohalla and other adjoining areas said that people living in the localities told the authorities concerned to find a solution of the drains which are passing from different areas like Noorbagh, Kanlibgh Microwave colony and other areas.
The drainage system in Baramulla town is failed as they have been filled by the garbage and now people throw the garbage and other waste products in near river Jhelum that has been also polluted and the authorities have become mere spectators, be it from the MC or any other department, said Gh Qadir of Baramulla town.
Pertinently the shopkeepers of the town have been demanding a scientific treatment of the waste as the garbage have become a health and environmental concerns for them.
