GCW Udhampur organizes symposium on "Save Girl Child"

Udhampur, Mar 17: With the motive to eradicate the discrimination against the girl child and to encourage the birth and education of girls, Govt. college for Women, Udhampur organized symposium on "Save Girl Child" in collaboration with District Health Society Udhampur. On this occasion DDC Udhampur Ravinder Kumar (IAS) was the chief guest. Principal of the college Dr. Chander Shekhar presided over the function and presented formal welcome address in which he encouraged the girl students to come forward and raise their voice against any discrimination. 13 students of the college participated in the symposium.
The participating students threw light on various aspects of "Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao" and highlighted the contributions of females in every field of life. Based on the judgement of Jury members Dr. Rabia, Prof. Poonam and Dr. S.D.Attri, 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions were bagged by Priya Thakur, Aakriti Sharma and Udita Sharma respectively. Proceedings of program were conducted by Priya Thakur. In his address DDC Udhampur Ravinder Kumar said that declination in sex ratio is an alarming bell for the society that needs to be addressed with iron hands. He sought awareness to check the menace of female foeticide and stressed for proper education of the girls. He further asserted that no society can progress without the contribution of women.
