KUPWARA, Mar 20: Army on Tuesday claimed to have killed four militants in an ongoing gunfight in Halmatpora Check forests in this north Kashmir district, while as Police said that nobody has been retrieved so far from the site of the gunfight. However SSP Kupwara, Shamsheer Hussain told Early Times that he can't confirm any killings yet, as no dead body of a militants has been retrieved from the area so for. Meanwhile Srinagar based defence spokesperson; Col Rajesh Kalia confirmed to Early Times that, four militants have so far been killed in the firefight in Arampura-Helmathpora in Kupwara district. The operation against the militants is still continued, said Kalia. According to sources that a joint team of army, police and SOG launched a cordon-and-search operation (CASO) at Check Fatehkhan adjacent to forest area of Halmatpora today at around 3:00 pm.
The combing operation again militants might prolong as it is believed that the militants have taken shelter in the dense forests and are responding to the fire from the forces intermittently, said sources.
Sources said that a group of 4-5 militants were spotted by security forces in Halmatpora forests, after which the joint team of forces intensified the searches, however the militants hiding in the area opened fire triggering off an encounter. The combing operation against militants was on till the last reports came in.
