But BR Ambedakar had opposed separate status for J&K
'Mann ki Baat'
3/26/2018 11:14:53 PM
Early Times Report

JAMMU, Mar 26: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday spoke to the nation for the 42nd time and talked his "Mann Ki Baat". He, among other things, said that "Today's India is Dr BR Ambedakar's India". BR Ambedakar was the Chairman of the Constitution drafting Committee.
Mercifully, the Congress-dominated and influenced Constituent Assembly didn't accept many of the Ambedakar's sane counsels and incorporated in the Constitution certain provisions, which divided the society instead of uniting it and also promoted separatism in Kashmir and created schism in the society.
Ambedakar was against the idea of Jammu & Kashmir getting a special status on the score of religion. When Sheikh Abdullah of the NC and JL Nehru's right hand man met Ambedakar and pleaded for special status, Ambedakar said: "You want India and Indians to defend Kashmir.
You want Kashmiri and Kashmiri to exercise all rights all over India. But you do not want India and Indians to exercise any right in Jammu & Kashmir. I am Law Minister of India. I can't be a party to such an act of betrayal of national interest".
However, Nehru & Co overruled Ambedakar and adopted Article 370 in November 1949. Article 370 was made applicable to Jammu & Kashmir on January 26, 1950 and the disastrous results of its application are there before us to see and feel. Kashmir has virtually slipped away and almost all the members of the minority communities have quit Kashmir. They have been leading the life of refugees since January 1990. Article 370 virtually created a separate republic on the Indian territories with almost all leaders from Kashmir, barring those representing the hapless refugees, opposing all the provisions of the Indian Constitution and all Indian institutions, including the institution of Army, and loving only the hard-earned Indian taxpayers' rupees. Article 370 has disempowered the people of Jammu and Ladakh for all practical purposes and getting only crumbs that too after lodging strong protests.
Ambedakar was also against the institution of reservation on whatever ground. Nehru and his coterie again overruled him and the result: Disunity in the society. Similarly, he was for the exchange of population to settle the Hindu-Muslim issue once and for all. He wanted all non-Muslims from Pakistan to come to the newly-created Indian Dominion and wanted the votaries of the two-nation to go to the newly-created Pakistan Dominion, which was created exclusively for them. Again, Gandhi and Nehru put their foot down and the result is that the issue which led to the partition of India on communal lines continues to dominate the discourse in Indian even today.
To be more precise, today's India is India of Ambedakar; it continues to be the India of Nehru and ilk.
