Transformer catches fire, damages electrical appliances
3/26/2018 11:17:15 PM
Early Times Report

Rajouri, Mar 26: An electric transformer caught fire, allegedly due to overloading but caused heavy loss to various electrical appliances in many houses in Bhattian village under the jurisdiction of Thanamandi police station in the district on Sunday night.
People alleged that they have suffered the loss because of non-cooperative attitude of the concerned Power Development Department (PDD) officials including lineman.
"A 63 KVA transformer was installed by the PDD to feed the area. Concerned Junior Engineer (JE) or lineman rarely comes to the area to check the functioning of the transformer" said Jahangir Iqbal former naib Sarpanch.
He added at about 11.pm on Sunday they first felt that lightening has struck their village and people ran out for safety. Open and underground electric wiring also caught fire in several houses and people witnessed that the transformer was burning.
Jahangir further said that it was not possible to assess the loss to the electric operated items including fridges, Televisions, fans etc as the power has been snapped in their area.
The lineman Mohd Younis was contacted after the incident but he refused to visit in the night hours. He along with JE visited the spot in the morning and after inspection left the village without any intimation to the villagers, alleged Jahangir.
Munshi Kahn, Executive Engineer, PDD when contacted said the transformer was damaged due to overloading and instructions have been issued to check the illegal connections and replacement of the transformers.
He added due to low voltage in many remote villages in Rajouri district people convert their connections to 'double face ' and that is a one of the major reasons for damages to electric transformers, added Khan.
