Early Time Report
uDHAMPUR, Mar 31: The traffic police have miserably failed to check use of high beam by the drivers in Udhampur.
The reckless and indiscriminate use of high beam by cars, scooters and heavy vehicles has caused many an accident, concerned citizens told Early Times.
According to them, the use of high beam almost renders the person coming in the opposite direction almost blind. "Most of the accidents at night are caused by the use of high beam," they said.
The transport authorities have issued guidelines on use of high beam but these guidelines are observed more in breach, the locals said.
Some people have been using light emitting diode (LED) and high-intensity discharge (HID) lamps, causing inconvenience to other people, especially to those driving two-wheelers, they said.
The people have urged the concerned department to launch an awareness campaign on traffic rules especially on use of high beam.
"The rear view mirror is completely lit up with high beam lights of vehicles coming from behind. Similarly, the high beam lights can also take toll on drivers coming from opposite direction," a local said.
Some motorists, especially young people driving expensive cars, motorbikes decorate their vehicles with attractive flashing lights, Even some people use four to six high density lights and other powerful headlamps mounted on the top for a modified look casing a great inconvenience to the common masses.
He added that speeding vehicles, fitted with glittering lights, time and again frighten two-wheeler riders, mainly families returning home after evening shopping.
