BARAMULLA, Apr 17: Clashes between students and forces rocked Sopore and Baramulla, disrupting normal life in the towns on Tuesday.
Students of Government Degree College boycotted their classes and tried to take out a rally against the rape and murder of Asifa of Rasanna village of Kathua district.
Reports said that the students indulged in stone-pelting after police tried to stop them from marching on the roads, leading to clashes between the two sides.
There was a huge deployment of security forces including police and CRPF to maintain law and order situation, however students tried to took rally outside of their college premises in support of Asifa, however the already deployed security forces fired dozens of teargas shells to disperse them.
The Students clashes resulted in disruption in business activities and traffic movement in the down town area of Sopore town.
It is pertinent to mention here that class work in Degree College Sopore was resumed after a week which was suspended as a precautionary measure.
Sources told early times that, girl students of GHSS Baramulla took out a rally in support of Asifa.
The students raised slogans against the government and demanded stern punishment for the culprits.
Meanwhile, in a communiqué, District Magistrate Baramulla Dr Nassir Ahmad Naqash has said that the class work shall remain suspended tomorrow on 18 April (Wednesday) in Government Boys Hr Secondary School Sopore and Boys Degree College Sopore, as a precautionary measure.
It is pertinent to mention here that, from past few days, various NGOs including PANKHH and other, trade bodies, JK against corruption, students took candle light march in this north Kashmir district in support of Asifa.
They were demanding that the culprit should be hanged to death in full public glare so that nobody would like to dare in future to do such heinous crimes against the women folk.
