US to help India in resolving energy crisis
4/18/2018 11:41:34 PM
India plans to seek assistance and direct aid from the US for tackling the pending energy crisis. And the US is keen to promote cordial ties with India by helping India in he field of energy. Power is what India wants, power for running the sector of industry, power for supplying water to the farm fields an d power for providing uninterrupted supply of energy to millions of homes. And experts believe that the US gift is God given one because the Westinghouse, which had been crippled by bankruptcy has come out of this financial mess and is getting ready to supply six nuclear reactors to India which is enough to meet the existing power crisis. The US Energy Secretary Rick Perry has said that Westinghouse Electric Co is emerging out of bankruptcy and is now capable of delivering the planned six nuclear reactors to India on time. On his first visit to India, Perry said India must look at "broad portfolio" of energy sources to deliver reliable electricity to its growing population and not just at affordability. Civil nuclear cooperation has been a cornerstone of US-India relations. The 2016 deal, under which Westinghouse was to build six AP1000 reactors in Andhra Pradesh, was concluded after more than a decade of diplomatic efforts. But it was in limbo after Westinghouse in March last year filed for bankruptcy following an estimated USD 13 billion of cost overruns at two US projects.
"The most important development is that Westinghouse is coming out of its bankruptcy" by shedding problematic parts of the company, Perry said.
Westinghouse is exceptionally good at building reactors. They are the best reactor manufacturer in the world. Their technology is the best in the world. So they are now ready to go, build reactors. "Asked if Westinghouse is capable of implementing the project on time, Perry said: "Absolutely." The Trump administration thought nuclear energy is very important and it would use it for 'leaning forward' in its partnership with various countries. "India is on top of that list." He rejected doubts being raised on spending millions of dollars on large and expensive foreign-built nuclear plants when dropping renewable power prices had provided with a surfeit of electricity generation, saying sustainable reliable power is key to meeting growing energy needs. Well if the energy produced from nuclear reactors is not affordable the experiment is worth testing because India and some remote regions of the country are faced with power crisis which affects industrial and agricultural growth.
Since India needs another food revolution for meeting the requirement from its most populous nation after China supply of power, whether affordable or not, is a must. Power supply is needed for helping India to manufacture various goods which could raise the export level. And once the energy crisis was resolved it may help Modi to fulfill his mission of "Make in India" when various units, established with foreign investment
Could manufacture goods and equipments required by the Armed forces. If a developing nation has to strengthen its Armed forces it has not to increase the columns and companies of troops but the strengthening means to equip them with latest weapons, including long range guns, missiles and other gadgets which would help the troops to engage the enemy on high altitude. Already India is surrounded by two powerful enemies, China and Pakistan which are ready to wage a war against India. This way India has had to meet the equipment shortage in the defence forces and upgrade the troops and paramilitary forces
