Udhampur, May 25 : Massive fire that broke out in the forest range Garnai, today engulfed a large portion of forests in Udhampur district.
The fire broke out in early morning in Garnai causing huge loss to the forest. Hundreds of trees and saplings were reduced to ashes , which also severely damaged environment and eco system in the area .
Locals said towering flames caused scare among them. "We could not even breathe," they said.
The locals created a fire line to stop the spreading fire in residential area.
Meanwhile Fire Protection force, Fire services, Police and locals were trying to control the fire but the operation was still underway.
An official said the fire shall be brought under control soon. |
