| E-tendering to ease vehicle mess in Katra stopped by authorities | | | A B Sharma

Katra, June 6: Unethical functioning and arrogance has hit Katra town, the holy base of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi.
To ease out the traffic congestion and regulate the heavy influx of the local as well as outside vehicles coming to the holy town, the Municipal Committee Katra earmarked a plan to install a government parking slot for which e-tendering was floated.
The tenders minimum price of which slated at Rs 10,00,000 was to benefit the tehsil exchequer for which many aspirants approached the MC office with a request for e-tendering .
However, before the process could be initiated, the District Commissioner shot a letter No vide 4/119-Dated 24.04.2018. to SDM Katra to stop the e-tendering process and thus failed the MC's initiative of parking lot in Katra .
Sources claim that some 'influential businessmen' of the town had clandestinely approached the DC office and had influenced him to stop the e-tendering of the government parking place in the town citing a reason that the toll slip taken from the outside vehicles should not be stopped.
It is in place to mention that a strong mafia works in the town which has its control over the toll slip which is taken by the outside buses which goes to the personnel influential persons.
" By not letting the parking place establish in the town , the DC has on one hand hit the tehsil exchequer denying it funds of Rs 10,00,000 besides promoting the corruption by allowing some influential people to fill their coffers ," said one of the resident of the town.
When approached, the SDM could not specify as to why the government Parking was not allowed to be constructed and diverted the queries to be asked to the District Commissioner only.
It is in place to mention that by announcing a parking construction in the holy town , the Municipal Committee Katra had been offering a specified parking place for the vehicles to ease the parking mess , but for the DC's intervention to stop the process , notwithstanding the fact as to why such stopping orders were passed from DC's office .
