Delay in repair, renovation of Stakna Project causes loss of Rs 13 Cr
6/7/2018 12:51:09 AM
Early Times Report
Jammu, June 6: The undue delay in repair and restoration of Stakna Power Project by Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation Limited (JKSPDCL) has caused huge financial loss of Rs 13 crore to the State exchequer.
Sources told Early Times that the State Government had handed over the Stakna Power Project to Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation Limited for running the unit to its installed capacity.
"The Stakna Power Project (2x2 MW) was transferred in 2011 by the Stale Government to the Company with only one machine/unit running at 25 per cent of the installed capacity due to need for replacement of electro mechanical parts and later the power project was put under complete shutdown in 2013," they said further adding that in order to restore the plant to its capacity, the Company engaged a consultant from IIT Roorkee for preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) at a cost of Rs 4.50 lakh in 2015.
But shockingly the Detailed Project Report by IIT Roorkee has yet to be finalized. Thus, non-replacement of electro-mechanical parts has resulted in loss of generation of 58 MUs units valuing Rs 2.40 crore per annum, they informed further adding that the although Corporation said that DPR framed by IIT Roorkee was being examined. Thus, delay in undertaking essential repair and renovation works resulted in loss of generation valued at Rs 13rore per annum.
Pertinently the Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation Limited is a wholly owned Government Company with main objective to plan, execute, operate and maintain all generating stations under State sector but it has been observed the Corporation has brought out several financial mismanagement and creation of avoidable liabilities.
