Defence Minister lauds security forces personnel for dealing effectively with militants in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, June 25: Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today lauded the security forces personnel posted in the Kashmir valley for effectively dealing with militants during their operations. She also expressed optimism and happiness over the synergy among the various security agencies operating in the valley.
Sitharaman who arrived here today also took stock of the arrangements for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra expressed her satisfaction over the overall arrangements for the Yatra. She was also given a brief about the security arrangements to be put in place for the Yatra that is commencing on June 28.
The Defence Minister visited the Baltal base camp of the yatra and talked to the officials there. The annual Amarnath Yatra would start simultaneously on both the tracks of Pahalgam and Baltal. It is expected that lakhs of pilgrims would take part in the Yatra and pay obeisance at the Amarnath cave and have a glimpse of Shiv Lingam.
Sitharaman was briefed by the officers of different security agencies about the steps taken to normalize the situation in Kashmir valley. She was also informed about the anti-militant operations being carried out in the valley and also given a brief about the steps being taken to prevent infiltration of militants from across the border.
Srinagar based defence spokesman Lt Colonel Rajesh Kalia said that the Defence Minister visited the Chinar Corps today to review the overall security situation prevailing in the Valley. The Defence Minister was briefed about the security and administrative arrangements for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra on ground, he said.
"The Raksha Mantri was subsequently given an update by Chinar Corps Commander in Badami Bagh Cantonment on the latest security scenario in the Kashmir Valley including details of Counter Infiltration and Counter Terrorist Operations undertaken in the recent past," said the spokesman.
The spokesman said that Defence Minister appreciated the effectiveness of the intelligence and operational grids and commended the commanders and troops for the excellent operational successes, which has contributed significantly towards improving the security environment in Kashmir valley.
"The Raksha Mantri accompanied by COAS General Bipin Rawat was received by Lt Gen Ranbir Singh, Northern Army Commander and Lt Gen AK Bhatt, Chinar Corps Commander. The Raksha Mantri was briefed about the security and administrative arrangements for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra on ground," said the spokesman.
The spokesman said that defence minister appreciated the effectiveness of intelligence and operational grids and commended the commanders and troops for the excellent operational successes, which has contributed significantly towards improving the security environment in Kashmir Valley. Later in the evening, Nirmala Sitharaman called on Governor Narendra Nath Vohra at Raj Bhavan in Srinagar and discussed the overall security situation in the valley.
