On world anti drug abuse day Police constable dies of overdose

Rajouri, June 26: On the occasion of 'International day against drugs abuse & illicit trafficking' a police constable posted with Rajouri police reportedly has died due to overdose of the drugs at his rented accommodation in Rajouri town. Refuting the allegations of overdoses of the drugs, Yougal Manhas , SSP said, "As per doctor's opinion he (constable) died of cardiac arrest".
However, no post-mortem was conducted on the request of family members and after the directions from the District Magistrate the body was handed over to the legal heirs for his last rites.
However , as per FIRs NOs.78-82 /2017 registered at Thanamandi police station in the month of July 2017 the deceased constable along with other 9 drug peddlers including another constable Shawaz Mirza were arrested along with a consignment of drugs.
The deceased constable has been identified as Mohd Imtiaz s/o Mohd Sadiq Malik resident of Gurdhan village under Rajouri police station. Imtiaz had hired an accommodation in Bela colony in Rajouri city and was rarely visiting his home at Gurdhan
Police said family members approached District Magistrate and on his direction the body was handed over to the family after legal formalities but without post-mortem.
Mohd Younis, Additional SP (ASP) said that the constable had died due to cardiac arrest at his rented accommodation at Bela colony in the town.
The deceased was suspended from service for his involvement in drug peddling and was reportedly attached in the district police lines (DPL). Police have started investigation.
