Upbeat Congress opts for early Assembly poll
7/5/2018 11:16:06 PM
Knowing that the Congress in alliance with the National Conference is going to win the next Assembly election the state unit of the Congress has demanded dissolution of the Assembly followed by fresh election. In fact the state unit of the Congress has expressed doubts about the plan of Governor, N.N. Vohra, who had, when the BJP pulled out of the Government allowing the state to be placed under the Governor's rule, kept the Assembly in suspended animation allowing politicians to indulge in horse trading for the purpose of forming the Government. Placing the Assembly under suspended animation raises doubts that possible options of horse-trading were being explored through different quarters. It would mean that options of horse-trading were being explored. The Governor's rule should not be there for long time," State Congress president Ghulam Ahmad Mir has stated. He said Governor NN Vohra is a man of high credibility and he should not let his long earned credibility go by allowing some parties to go for horse-trading.
"If any party has in writing claimed to form a government, then Governor should give them stipulated time to prove the majority. If no party has come forward, there is no point in just keeping the Assembly under suspended animation. It only allows some parties to try horse-trading. The State Congress chief said Governor should act if no party that has come forward to form government, then Assembly should be dissolved. The Congress held a daylong crucial meeting at the PCC headquarters, here during which party leaders took stock of the current political situation that has arisen after fall of PDP-BJP coalition government. Senior Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad, Ambika Soni, Saifuddin Soz, GA Mir, sitting and former legislators and block and zonal level leaders from all three regions of the state participated in the day-long meeting. During the meeting party leaders decided that efforts should be made at all levels to help administration restore normalcy in the state.
The Congress believes that Governor's rule should not continue for longer period. "We all need to restore normalcy and come out of this chaos that has been created by PDP and BJP in last four years". Mir believed the PDP-BJP "unholy alliance" was made to break. "We have been telling from day one that this is an unholy alliance. This government was formed to break one day. It was just a matter of time". The Congress leaders have been told to collectively reach out to people and restore their faith on democratic and political process, which has been destroyed by previous regime. Holding PDP-BJP government responsible for pushing the State into Governor's rule, Mir said situation has deteriorated like anything and it is because of the failure of previous government. Whatever charges the Congress levels against the PDP-BJP coalition Government the party led by Mir wants to dissolve the Assembly and hold fresh elections. This is an appropriate time for the Congress-NC to regain power which the two had lost in 2014 poll. The two know that the Modi wave may not create a magic spell on the voters of Jammu and Kashmir and the PDP is set to be defeated in the valley and the BJP is bent upon facing defeat in the region of Jammu. That is the sole reason for the demand of the Congress for holding fresh elections.
