Rahul dumps Cong leaders from Jammu, Ladakh
Reconstitution of CWC
7/19/2018 11:08:23 PM
Early Times Report

JAMMU, July 19: AICC president Rahul Gandhi reconstituted his 51-member Congress Working Committee, the highest decision making body, two days ago. He removed Karan Singh from the CWC but retained Ghulam Nabi Azad, presently Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha. Karan Singh remained member of the CWC for years.
Rahul Gandhi gave two berths in his CWC to two persons from J&K. One was Azad and the other was Tariq Hamid Karra. Karra was the founder member of the PDP but resigned as PDP MP and from the PDP as well after party president Mehbooba Mufti became CM after the death of her father Mufti Sayeed.
A few months later, Karra joined the Congress in New Delhi with the then AICC president Sonia Gandhi and her son and AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi inducting him into their party.
The retention of Azad and ouster of Karan Singh sent a clear signal that the Rahul Gandhi's Congress has no place for the Congress leaders from Jammu and Ladakh. The Congress ruled the state on its own or in alliance with the NC and the PDP after 1965 for years with the help and support of Jammu and Ladakh. It was Jammu and Ladakh, which were considered the Congress' strongholds, not Kashmir where the NC and the PDP were the two major players.
The exclusion of any leader from Jammu and Ladakh in the CWC only means that there would be none in that body to represent the viewpoint of the suffering Jammu and the marginalized Ladakh and that only a particular type of opinion would influence the working of the CWC.
Indeed, Rahul Gandhi has added to the woes of the Congress in the state by neglecting Jammu and Ladakh and putting all eggs in the basket of a particular group professing a particular faith and belonging to a particular sect.
One thing is clear: Both the national parties, the BJP and the Congress, consider Jammu and Ladakh irrelevant and give a preferential and differential treatment to Kashmir. It is a bad politics.
