No one spoke when Vishal, Parimokash were sacked
Aseem's appointment as AAG
7/19/2018 11:26:36 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, July 19: On July 19, the Governor NN Vohra's administration appointed 31 law officers in the J&K High Court's two wings, Jammu wing and Kashmir wing. 16 were from Jammu and 15 from Kashmir. One of them was Aseem Sawhney. He was appointed Additional Advocate General. His appointment did not go well with former CMs Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah. Mehbooba Mufti tweeted thrice and urged the Governor to cancel his appointment saying his appointment would subvert justice system and promote rape culture. Omar Abdullah, who otherwise considers Mehbooba Mufti as his biggest foe, also took the plunge and supported her opposition to the appointment of Aseem Sawhney.
The fact of the matter is that both Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah trained their guns at Governor Vohra and sought to influence him through their unwarranted attacks. Both asked Governor Vohra to review his decision. Their opposition was based on the ground that Aseem was one of the Defence Counsels of the accused in the Kathua case, also called "Kathua Conspiracy" hatched by certain vested interests in Kashmir to defame the minority community in the state and majority community in Jammu province and "cause their migration".
Why this opposition? The Governor is not a naïve. He has been in the state as Governor since June 2008. He knows each and every thing. He knows who is who. He doesn't do things casually. He applies his mind and then takes decisions.
They are the same Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah, who didn't utter a word when the PDP-BJP coalition government sacked unceremoniously two law officers from Jammu, Additional Advocate General Vishal Sharma and Deputy Advocate General Parimokash Seth, both from the RSS-BJP quota.
What was their fault? They had only urged the J&K High Court to direct the concerned authorities to implement in letter and spirit the existing cow-killing and beef-eating laws so that the evil of cow-killing was stopped as per the law laid down in the Ranbir Penal Code. Their arguments were upheld by the High Court and necessary directions were issued to the concerned authorities to implement the said laws.
The PDP-BJP coalition government should have supported them as they had not done anything illegal by pitching for the cow-killing and beef-eating laws. But it was not to be. Both the law officers were sacked ceremoniously in no time with the so-called BJP keeping mum and enabling the PDP to play all the shots.
Was the sacking of two law officers from Jammu not subversion of justice system and a move aimed at demoralizing upright lawyers? Mehboba Mufti and Omar Abdullah should not interfere. They can't have two yardsticks. They can't be subjective. They should leave the issue to the judgment of the Governor. His removal would send a wrong signal and further alienate the people of Jammu province.
