50 kg high grade heroin worth over Rs 250 crores recovered, two held

Jammu, Aug 6: Police today claimed to have arrested two drug peddlers and recovered 50 kg high grade heroin from their possession from Rajeev Nagar area falling under the jurisdiction of police station Bahu Fort. Addressing media persons, Dr SD Singh Jamwal, IGP Jammu Zone said acting on a tip off, a team of Special Operation Group (SOG) and police station Trikuta Nagar established a joint naka and in accordance to the input on truck bearing registration number JK02AD-3965 was stopped at Rajeev Nagar Chowk opposite Hotel Radison Blue.
"On questioning driver and helper disclosed their names as Gurjeet Singh of Digiana Ashram and Ravi Kumar of Raipur Satwari respectively", said IGP Jammu.
The truck was loaded with paper cartoon and only after persistent questioning, the above mentioned driver disclosed that he is carrying 50 kg high grade heroin in a specially created space in the back wall of the driver's cabin which can be opened from back side after emptying the truck, said IGP.
"Thereafter in the presence of a Magistrate and photography team from Crime Branch and territorial officers, the search of the vehicle conducted and 50 kg heroin was recovered", said IGP. In this regard a case under FIR no. 212/2018 under section 8/21/29/60 NDPS Act has been registered at police station Bahu Fort.
He further said this huge catch of narcotics is a one step ahead of the District Police Jammu in the operation 'sanjeevani'.
Sources said that the packets of the consignment have stamps of Afghanistan and was preliminary it came to light that the arrest drug peddlers have to deliver the consignment in Punjab.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu Vivek Gupta, Vinay Kumar, in-charge SP South and SP Operation, DySP Vipan Chandran-SDPO East, Inspector Parvez Sajad-SHO Bahu Fort and SI Rakesh Roshan incharge police post Bathandi.
