Now PDP-NC in race on Article 35-A
8/6/2018 10:50:18 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 6: While the National Conference and the Peoples Democratic Party are out of power, both the regional parties seem to be in a race to speak more on the safeguard of Article 35 A to be in news.
While the National Conference President Omar Abdullah has been tweeting frequently on the topic, his party leaders are busy taking to streets in Kashmir to keep the pot boiling.
Sources said both the parties have given up their regular activities in Kashmir and are concentration on the Article 35 A as the rivals find their prospects more on causing a stir through their controversial statements on the subject.
No sooner the Supreme Court deferred the hearing, the PDP spokesman Rafi Mir took to the social media to say that the matter was far from over.
He said there was nothing to celebrate in Supreme Court's order defering the hearing on petitions challenging Article 35-A. "Deferment of SC hearing is nothing to be celebrated about. GoI will have to take a clear stand & the Hon. @jandkgovernor must ensure that the state is on a strong legal foot. The pot continues to boil, uncertainity hovering above us. #Article35A," Mir wrote on Twitter shortly after Apex court deferred the hearing till August 27.
While Rafi to busy, Omar Abdullah made numerous tweets.
In a veiled attack on separatists, former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah said that those out to defend Section Article 35-A were tacitly accepting that future of the state lies within the Constitution of India.
"Protecting Article35A is a tacit acceptance that J&K's future lies within the Constitution of India, otherwise how would it matter if it were struck down or diluted," Omar asked on Twitter.
From the side of PDP, it was the party's former spokesman Naeem Akhter terming any potential act of "tinkering with" the Article 35 A as "marital rape."
One of the netizens reacted to Akhter saying these politicians can go to any extent and "even pretend being rape victims to be in news."
But interestingly while the party leadership on both sides is trying its best to be in news, the senior leaders from both sides avoided any field activities.
From PDP President Mehbooba Mufti to NC President Dr Farooq Abdullah to Omar Abdullah, none of the former three Chief Ministers attended any roadside demonstrations with regard to Article 35 A.
People opine that the two parties are doing drama to gain some goodwill in Kashmir, which is seen as their main vote bank.
